For location, see Image . The white notices explain changes to the opening hours, which have been cut back due to lack of shoe repairs and clog sales. The proprietor might also be busy elsewhere, building stone walls or bowling. At one time there were four clogmakers in Caldbeck, serving miners, millworkers and farm labourers. Joe Strong started his business in 1948, and was joined by son Will in the early 1970s. Since this photo was taken the shop has closed - Mr Strong Jr retired at the end of 2013.
