Italianate Greenhouse and Giant American Agave

The picture shows a giant American agave plant in bloom. The custodians of the greenhouse have removed some glass panels to allow the plant to reach this height. The plant came into bloom in August 2015. It is said that these plants only bloom when very old, around 100 years old, and then die shortly afterwards.
