The Prince Frederick carries a very unusual name for a pub. It is named after the son of George II, who predeceased his father and thus never became king himself: instead, when George II died Frederick's son, the king's grandson, became George III. On the left, a green sign marks where the Green Chain walk leaves Nichol Lane to cross the railway and head north-east.
