Elm Tree House was built by John Hebblethwaite, draper of Kingston upon Hull, by the 1820s. Stone façade with Doric porch, yellow brick to sides and rear. The bay windows flanking the porch and the pedimented wings with rusticated quoins were added in the 1860s. From 1937 it was a University of Hull student residence. During the Second World War it was used as a wartime St John's First Aid post. In 1950 the house became Cottingham Memorial Club, which use continues to the present day. This photo was taken from the former front garden, now a public open space.
