A typical footpath in the steep-sided industrial valleys of Yorkshire, forming short-cuts which were too steep for road traffic. Immediately before dropping down beneath the railway which can be seen here, the path is actually crossing over a second (disused and abandoned) railway, which is in tunnel at this point.
