Built in the C18. It was a coaching inn at one time. See http://www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/en-158480-st-michael-s-hatfield-hertfordshire for entry in British Listed Buildings. The construction of the gates/fence seems to be a long job (see 2012 picture http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2953015)
