There is no vehicular access behind the photographer from this quiet lane into St Mary's Gate (i.e. out onto the busy B6543 road). The corner of the building on the right is part of a late C15th house that was once the home of a rich and influential local family - the Heathcotes - in the C17th. The business premises in the distance, located in what was once the home of "The Derbyshire Times" newspaper, are now occupied by the Heathcotes Group, who are specialists in the provision of residential care for adults with learning disabilities.
