Rev Ebenezer Erskine died in 1754 and this Category B listed monument was erected by Peddie and Kinner in 1859 over his original tomb. In the 1730's Ebenezer Erskine, one of the ministers of Stirling, left the Church of Scotland and in 1740 he and his followers built the first Secession Church roughly at the spot where this monument to him now stands. The 'new' church by Allan Jonstone was built behind it in 1825-6 and altered by William Simpson in 1877. Abandoned in 1968 and set on fire in 1980 all that remains is the façade with a modern (1985ish) extension to the rear.
