Situated on the corner of Market Hill and the High Street, the library is a charitable trust governed by a scheme made by the Minister of Education on 20 June 1952. The charity was originally founded by the will of Dr Thomas Plume dated 2 September 1704 http://www.thomasplumeslibrary.co.uk/about-us/
