In steam days Meadow Lane had a level crossing and a pedestrian footbridge. That bridge went years ago and latterly the road crossing was used only by pedestrians and cyclists. Now a new bridge is being built, with ramps for cycles and wheelchairs. In the background, track engineers' Plasser & Theurer ballast tamper DR77904 coasts by. The picture was taken from the former Great Northern Railway line, now a footpath, whose Bulwell stone retaining wall is on the right of the picture. By way of comparison, see Image] and Image Alan Murray-Rust's Image] shows the crossing from the west in May 2008.
