An unusual monument by the Victorian artist G. F. Watts to Thomas Cholmondeley (†1864) who took the name of Owen. He is depicted as a lifelike bearded soldier of the Crimea kneeling in prayer, his hands resting on his sword. A fellow pupil at art school with Watts was Reginald Cholmondeley, who carved the poignant memorial to his bride Alice that is close by. Image
