Great excitement as a grass fire sweeping across the former Croydon aerodrome brings two fire engines (the other one is further down the road) and lots of firemen. Hoses had to be fed through the railings; those on the other side had gained access through locally-known gaps. See also Image On the left in the background is a (probable) air-raid shelter near the cul-de-sac of Plough Lane. The trees along the grass verge have now grown to block much of the view across the aerodrome.
