This rectangular structure set into a quarried recess may once have had something to do with boatbuilding at Arnside. I was standing on a slipway taking the picture. There used to be a firm called Crossfield who built boats at Arnside into the early decades of the 20th century. Beyond the walkers is the Arnside coastguard station.
