Heading eastwards past Bentley Wood, it is the main road connecting London to Eastbourne. Other than bypasses at Marefield, Uckfield, East Hoathly and Hailsham it still follows much of the same route as the original turnpike that was set up in the 1750s. Viewed from the junction with Back Lane.
