Browns Lane runs from a kink on Kiln Lane near Cholesbury through to the hamlet of Hastoe. It is a Public Byway, but motorised traffic is excluded from it during the winter months (November to April) as declared by this sign. Anyone who walks along this muddy, leafy track through a wood would probably be surprised that it was ever used by motorised traffic, let alone (as there are no signs to say otherwise) that they could whizz down here at 60mph perfectly legally - provided it was between May and October. I would suggest that for normal family saloons this would not be a great idea, and should probably only be attempted by scrambler bikes, land-rovers or rally-prepared cars. Then again, as there is a sign on the gate asking people to look after the sensitive natural flora and fauna, to keep to the track and generally be eco-friendly, perhaps any motorised traffic would not be too popular.
