Former Yardheads School, Henderson Street

A school designed for the Leith School Board by the town architect, James Simpson, and erected in 1875 as part of major street improvements. Simpson was responsible for several notable buildings in Leith, including Leith Town Hall (now Leith Police Station) in Queen Charlotte Street and the old Leith Hospital between King Street and Mill Lane. The school has been converted into private apartments which are now known by the rather silly name 'Academia'.
