The building was a normal residential house until the early 1950s when it became one of many greengrocers on the street who survived under various owners for just over a decade. After that it was extended into by Transatlantic Plastics from Image in 1966 and remained retailing and fashioning plastic wallets and bubble wrap until the mid 1990s. For a brief period it was a vintage clothes store called Red before the current occupiers, the Guarana Bar, moved in. Based on the exotic health food ingredient it is part shop, part cafe, used initially by those on their way out to an evening’s clubbing as much as a pick me up by flagging retail therapists.
