Common Poppies, sometimes called Field Poppies, are a very striking scarlet colour. They are often seen in great numbers in cornfields or on road verges. Another name for the poppy is corn-rose due to its association with corn fields - Ceres, the Roman Goddess of corn is depicted wearing a wreath of field poppies. Here the poppies are growing in what appears to be an area of fallow land.
