Seen from Newton on Ayr station are class 20 locomotives departing the Ayr Harbour branch with an empty mgr coal set and heading for one of the local open cast mines to reload with coal. Coal was exported at this time through Ayr Harbour to Northern Ireland. The line in the right foreground leads into Falkland yard the main freight yard at the time for Ayrshire.
