This building in the Grofield area of Abergavenny is interesting both from its construction, part stone, part brick and for speculation on its former usage. Now a private residence, it was listed as a shop in Kelly's 1901 Directory of Monmouthshire. It may possibly have had other uses later on, perhaps as a pub. Windows on the floors above the doorway have been bricked up. A doorway on the right side of the building has been concreted over. A faded inscription above the remaining doorway shows Chester House.
