Please see Image and Image for more information about this former inn, one of the many which used to be found in Welch Gate. This photograph shows the list of the former inn's amenities, which has been painted on the wall at first floor level. Unfortunately over the years it obviously was painted more than once, and the letters are not in alignment. This makes it more difficult to read. The contrast has been increased a bit to facilitate readability. My own interpretation of the text is: "Every accommodation for visitors. Moderate rates. Tea Garden". I'm not sure whether there is another short word after "accommodation". Also "rates" is a guess as I can't make that out. It is interesting that the inn had a tea garden, presumably this was the equivalent of what we would call a beer garden today. At present, I have no idea what years the inn was in operation. From its external appearance it probably closed many decades ago.
