The Picture House, 12 Bridge Street

As the name indicates, this was originally a cinema, or picture house, as they used to be called in the early days of cinema. It opened in 1914, and showed its first "talkie" (i.e with sound) in 1930. Amazingly it carried on as a cinema until the end of March 1995. It is a Grade II listed building. Its closure left Stafford with only one cinema, the nearby Apollo:- Image On the 6th March 1997, the building came back into use as a J D Wetherspoon pub. It still has a cinematic feel inside. The pub has a lot of facilities, as one would expect with this brand.
