The lake (if it was a lake) may have been an ornamental feature or a fishpond in the grounds of the original manor house, now demolished. This is the view from the Firs Lane bridge crossing Image The bridge is also a weir. Across the road, at a higher level, is the meadow signed 'Haseley Gravel Beds' Image So the hydrology of the area is most interesting but at present baffling. Could this be the Inchford Brook emerging from underground, while the watercourse that appears to be the Inchford Brook is actually the mill stream?
