After the Second World War, the Governors of the Victoria Almshouses in Deerings Road, Reigate (see Image) were looking to expand their provision but were having difficulty finding a location. Eventually, Mr Lees Stenning, who had been the Chairman of the Board of Governors since 1923, gave part of the garden of his house, Ranmore, on London Road, Redhill, as a site. The first houses were ready for occupancy in 1951, with a further few following in 1954.
