Woodspeen: Former Lambourn Valley Railway at Snake Lane

This is the point on Snake Lane in Woodspeen where the railway used to cross. Ordinary passenger and freight services between Newbury and Lambourn ceased in 1960, fifty years bar a day from the date that this photo was taken. Military goods trains to RAF Welford made occasional use of the line up to 1973, but the tracks and infrastructure including the bridge formerly here were removed around 1976. Image is off along the embankment to the right.
