The muddy area beside the pool is a problem with the resident population of Canada Geese. The pool is a remnant of the industrial heritage of the area. Coal and Etruria Marl were extracted from the grey shales with later furnace waste, slag and canal dredgings being dumped. The pool and surrounds are now managed as a site of importance for nature conservation. There are regionally important plant species on the slag heaps and canal dredgings. http://www.bcll.org.uk/whats_happening/Wolverhampton.html#Ladymoor_Pool
