A 16thC "Scoto-French château" (James Grant), built for the Nisbet family, whose lands were sold in the 18thC to a Quaker seed merchant, William Miller. His son was the eccentric bibliophile, William Henry Miller, who ordered his mausoleum on the estate to be dug to a depth of forty feet below ground level. The house, damaged by a stray German bomb in 1942, is now used by the City Council's Social Work Department. Image
