One of several narrow streets and alleys leading off Borough High Street. This view is looking back to the High Street. The Blue Eyed Maid pub is on the left hand corner. As a gathering ground for refuse bins and the like, and of drunken pub customers late in the evening, it is not a very salubrious place even now, but would have been even worse in Dickens' time (he refers to the Blue Eyed Maid in "A Tale of Two Cities").
