The Neighbourhood Sergeant provides frontline leadership to coordinate neighbourhood team activity, and works with the community, partners and other colleagues to deliver safer neighbourhoods.
This includes directing problem solving and engagement activity, and being responsive to community needs.
The Neighbourhood Inspector has overall responsibility for the entire neighbourhood policing team of Sergeants, Police Constables, PCSOs and police staff.

| 1 Aug 2025 | Anti-social behaviour (ASB) Swiftly responding to incidents of ASB and effectively using policing powers available to intervene - including powers of dispersal where the actions of individuals or groups impact their wider surroundings; which can lead to wider harm, including the misuse of public spaces or buildings, criminal damage or vandalism, for example graffiti or damage to public buildings. Working with partners and youth organisations, including schools and colleges to identify opportunities for early intervention with individuals at risk of causing ASB. Response (1 Aug 2025)Officers continue to receive reports of anti-social behaviour (ASB), and youth related crime and disorder in areas of Newhaven. In the last 4 weeks (end of July, first two weeks of August), officers for your wards have conducted over 30 hours of dedicated patrols in areas across Newhaven, including the town centre, Meeching, Denton and into the Valley, with officer patrols averaging at 2 hours each at varying times to help ensure police can offer a presence and reassurance to locals around as many peak hours as possible reported by residents as t the top times for ASB. Ward officer continue to commit to daily patrols during their shift to identify and deter anti-social behaviour, and are working with our Neighbourhood Youth Officers to visit local schools to speak to youngsters about low level crime and ASB now that the summer holidays have ended. |

Response (1 Jun 2026)•In recent weeks, officers from various local policing teams, including the Fatal Five Unit and your Lewes Neighbourhood Policing Team, have been carrying out proactive patrols along coastal areas following incidents involving off-road bikes and anti-social driving, already two off road bikes have been seized from the roads, following ASB and dangerous driving in an around Newhaven, one being in the Fort Road area. •Neighbourhood Youth Officers continue to get into schools to engage with youngsters at key stages of devolvement to discuss ASB, low level crime and the effects actions can have on communities, officers also continue to regularly drop into the Newhaven Youth Centre to engage with youngsters. •Additional patrols of open green spaces and parks in the area, with officers activity engaging with youngsters and encouraging them into local groups or sports events in the town as an alternative to causing ASB in the area. •Officers also continue to engage with young people to identify those at risk of becoming involved in ASB, providing early support, building positive relationships, and working with partners to divert individuals away from offending behaviour and towards more constructive activities. |
