Anti-social behaviour (ASB)

•Priority for June - August

Swiftly responding to incidents of ASB and effectively using policing powers available to intervene - including powers of dispersal where the actions of individuals or groups impact their wider surroundings; which can lead to wider harm, including the misuse of public spaces or buildings, criminal damage or vandalism, for example graffiti or damage to public buildings.

Working with partners and youth organisations, including schools and colleges to identify opportunities for early intervention with individuals at risk of causing ASB.

Addressing and taking action against ASB in the form of nuisance noise, such as noisy cars or motorbikes.

ACTIONS TO BE TAKEN SEPTEMBER – NOVEMBER

Ongoing work with local authorities to address concerns of tents and rough sleeping around areas of the Wish Tower.

Patrols of reported areas to be continued into the Autumn months, with officers for Meads continuing to attend regular meetings with partners and councillors to identify areas of ASB and actions that can be jointly taken to reduce ASB in the area.

ACTIONS TAKEN PREVIOUSLY JUNE – AUGUST

We continue to receive reports from local residents around ASB associated with rough sleepers and members of the street community.

During the summer months a number of hours have been dedicated to patrols by local ward officers, with over 25 separate foot patrols by local ward officers in Meads conducted between end of July and August, averaging at 2.5 per patrol.

Police continue working closely with local councils with options available to teams, to look to remove tents at rear of Pier and on Wish Tower as reported by local residents.

We also continue supporting our homeless communities to help them get the relevant support as well as working with council and housing teams to look into housing options.

Our yearly campaign to address community concerns around road and driving related offences that fall into the fatal 5 driving offences.

Including targeted patrols, education and enforcement activities across the district throughout the Summer months, focused on targeting excess speed, distracted driving, as well as drink/drug driving.

Continued work with partners, local authorities, including volunteer Community Speed Watch Groups to support activities and keep the roads of your town safe for all road users.

ACTIONS TO BE TAKEN SEPTEMBER – NOVEMBER

Further police led operations to tackle ASB driving and fatal 5 driving offences planned for the coming months.

Officers for Meads continue to commit to daily patrols of your ward, with plans for partnership days of action over the Autumn/Winter months focussed on roads reported by residents as repeat locations for both ASB/dangerous driving and excess speed.

ACTIONS TAKEN PREVIOUSLY JUNE – AUGUST

Partnership work alongside both volunteers from local Community Speed Watch (CSW) Groups for Meads and Lower Meads as well as staff and officers from your Neighbourhood Policing Team and our Road Safety Team continues.

During the last four weeks a number of deployments have been set up in areas reported by communities, including along Kind Edwards Parade supported by local CSW where a number of drivers were spoken to in relation to their speed.

Further night time patrols have also been conducted during the month, including in area along Royal Parade.

Results include a number of TORs (traffic offence reports) being issued for the offence of driving whilst using a handheld device, as well as the arrests of a driver driving without a valid driving licence, and another driver driving whilst disqualified.

Responding and taking action to tackle road and driving related offences that fall under the fatal 5, including excess speeding, mobile phone use, as well as tackling anti-social driving.

• Officers for Meads continue to commit to additional patrols and targeted police operations in areas of reported ASB driving, including areas of King Edwards Parade and the roads across Beachy Head.

• Future partnership road safety checks to be planned, including checks alongside volunteers from your Meads Community SpeedWatch Groups (CSW).

Drug Harm Reduction.

Targeting drug related crime in your town through intelligence, enforcement and partnership work.

• Continued targeted patrols to tackle drug related harm, including high visibility patrols of known areas of drug use and drug dealing including in areas of Devonshire Tennis courts and the pier to deter and identify those involved.

• A number of arrests made in the past few months in relation to drug harm, with referrals made to partner agencies to provide support and prevent further harm from known drug users in the area.
