We have been carrying out high?visibility patrols in the area. This helps us spot the people causing antisocial behaviour and deal with any problems we find. We are using our antisocial behaviour powers when needed and working closely with Medway Housing. We have also given out Community Protection Warnings and Community Protection Notices.

A Community Protection Warning is the first step we can take when someone’s behaviour is causing problems for the community. It tells them clearly what they must stop doing. A Community Protection Notice is the next step if the behaviour carries on. It is a legal notice that requires the person to stop the behaviour or take certain actions. If they ignore it, they can be fined or taken to court.

We are also visiting youth groups to talk with young people who may be linked to antisocial behaviour. By getting to know them and offering support, we hope to reduce issues in the area.

Nuisance vehicles.

We have been carrying out high visibility patrols in the area. We are working with the community to find out where e-scooters and e-bikes are being kept. This helps us identify who owns them and deal with any offences. When needed, we are seizing scooters. We have also taken part in a multi agency operation to deal with nuisance vehicles and keep the area safe.

Fly tipping.

We are working with Medway Council to clear away any fly tipping we find. After this, we try to find out who is responsible. We check any local CCTV and make sure the people involved are held to account.

Violence against women and girls.

Officers are making the safety of women and girls one of their main priorities. We work in a proactive and supportive way and closely with partner organisations. Our focus is on helping people early, keeping them safe and building trust with those who may be more at risk.

Officers carry out regular high‑visibility patrols in places that have been identified as problem areas. This helps reassure the public and sends a clear message to anyone thinking of causing harm. We also spend time speaking with women and girls in the community to hear their concerns, gather information and make sure they feel confident reporting incidents to us.

We have made several arrests for crimes linked to violence against women and girls, including domestic abuse, harassment and violence in public spaces. These arrests have allowed protective measures to be put in place, helped us gather important evidence and reduced the risk of further offending.

Wildlife crime issues and animal thefts.

Recently, we received reports about young people carrying catapults. This was treated as an emergency, and officers went to the area straight away. When they arrived, they saw several young people riding off‑road motorbikes.

We were able to stop one of the bikes. The rider matched the description of someone seen with a catapult. The young person was safely detained and searched, and during the search we found three catapults and a number of marbles. Both the off‑road bike and the items were seized.

This incident is still under investigation.

Antisocial behaviour - general.

During February, I led a police operation to deal with nuisance vehicles, including e‑scooters, e‑bikes and off‑road motorbikes. We worked across Medway, with a particular focus on the Walderslade and Lordswood areas. More than 30 vehicles were taken off the road. Two off‑road motorbikes were also found on Kestrel Road, an area that residents had repeatedly told us was experiencing problems linked to nuisance bikes and e‑scooters. Since the operation, we have already seen a clear drop in antisocial behaviour in the area.

I also visited local schools to talk to pupils about the dangers of riding off‑road bikes or scooters without a licence or insurance, helping them understand the risks and legal consequences.

Violence against women and girls (VAWG).

Officers from the Medway Community Safety Unit play an important role in identifying and locating people suspected of offences linked to violence against women and girls. Violence against women and girls includes a range of offences such as domestic abuse, stalking, harassment, sexual offences and other forms of violence or intimidation. Officers work proactively to locate suspects, make arrests where appropriate and support ongoing investigations. This activity helps protect victims, reduce the risk of further offending and ensure that those suspected of committing offences are brought before the courts whenever possible. Protecting women and girls from violence and abuse remains a key policing priority, and officers continue to work with partner agencies to support victims and improve community safety.

Local officers are working closely with businesses to identify young people involved in antisocial behaviour in the area. Antisocial behaviour includes actions that cause nuisance, alarm or distress to others, such as disorderly behaviour, vandalism or persistent disruptive conduct. Information shared by businesses helps officers build a clearer picture of the issues affecting the community and identify those responsible. When individuals are identified, officers may carry out visits to their home address to speak with them and their families, provide advice and support, and take any appropriate enforcement action. This approach helps to address problems at an early stage, prevent further incidents and improve the quality of life for local residents, businesses and visitors.

Local officers have visited schools in the area to educate children and young people about the safe and legal use of e-scooters and e-bikes. These sessions help raise awareness of the laws that apply to these vehicles, as well as the potential safety risks associated with using them incorrectly. In addition, officers from the Medway Community Safety Unit have carried out a targeted operation to tackle the unlawful use of e-scooters and e-bikes. During the operation, several scooters were seized and riders were dealt with for a range of driving offences. This combination of education and enforcement helps to improve road safety, reduce antisocial behaviour and address concerns raised by local residents. Officers will continue to work with schools, families and the wider community to encourage safe and responsible use of these vehicles.
