Road safety issues.

We have been patrolling the area and dealing with any traffic offences we find. This includes giving out Traffic Offence Reports (TOR) and using our police powers when needed. A TOR is a formal report given to a driver when a road traffic law has been broken. It can lead to a fine, points on a driving licence, or a driver awareness course, depending on the offence. We have also been using the speed camera and working with Speedwatch volunteers to check how fast people are driving. We are working with our partners to help make the roads safer for everyone.

E-Scooter/E-Bikes.

We have been carrying out high?visibility patrols in the area and are working with the community to find out where e?scooters are being kept. This helps us identify who owns them and deal with any offences. We have given out Section 59 warnings, and some scooters have been seized. A Section 59 warning is a formal notice given when a vehicle is used in a way that is careless, inconsiderate, or causes alarm, distress, or annoyance. The warning lasts for 12 months, and if the same person or vehicle behaves in the same way again, the police can seize the vehicle. We are now planning an operation to help reduce nuisance vehicles in the area.

Antisocial behaviour.

We have been carrying out high?visibility patrols in the area. This helps us find the people responsible for antisocial behaviour and deal with any offences we discover. We are using our antisocial behaviour powers when needed and are working closely with Medway Housing. We have also issued Community Protection Warnings and Community Protection Notices. A Community Protection Warning tells someone that their behaviour is causing problems and must stop. If they ignore the warning, a Community Protection Notice can then be given. This is a legal notice that requires them to stop the behaviour or take steps to prevent it happening again.

We are also talking and working with young people who may be linked to antisocial behaviour. By engaging with them and offering support, we hope to reduce problems in the area.

Nuisance motorcycles.

Many people in Medway are worried about antisocial behaviour involving nuisance vehicles, especially e‑scooters and e‑bikes. To help tackle this, we carried out a dedicated three‑day operation. More than 30 vehicles were taken off the roads, and we quickly saw a reduction in calls from the public about these issues.

During the operation, some riders were found carrying catapults and ammunition. Others were wearing balaclavas and riding dangerously in busy areas used by pedestrians. These incidents were dealt with firmly, and we hope this will help reduce antisocial behaviour across Medway.

We will continue to maintain a strong police presence in the area and take firm action against anyone using a vehicle in an unsafe or illegal way.

Fly tipping.

We have been working closely with Medway Council, Housing Services and the Environmental Enforcement Team to deal with fly‑tipping in the area. We recently visited the affected locations together so we could see the problem clearly and decide what needs to happen next.

The rubbish will now be removed, and enquiries are under way to find out who is responsible for dumping it. We will continue to work with our partners to make sure anyone involved is held to account and to help stop this from happening again.

E-scooters and e-bikes.

Any e-bikes and e-scooters being used unlawfully within the community are being stopped and, where appropriate, seized. Officers record the details of those involved and, where the rider is under the age of 18, parents or guardians are informed so they can support efforts to address the behaviour. Some e-scooters and e-bikes cannot be used legally on public roads, pavements or other public spaces, and misuse can create risks for pedestrians and other road users. As part of ongoing enforcement activity, a recent targeted operation was carried out across Medway to tackle the unlawful use of e-scooters and e-bikes. During the operation, multiple scooters were seized and appropriate action was taken against those using them illegally. This work aims to improve road safety, reduce antisocial behaviour and address concerns raised by local residents.

These patrols help to deter antisocial behaviour, identify offenders and provide reassurance to local residents. Antisocial vehicle use can include riding in a way that causes nuisance, alarm or distress to others, such as dangerous riding, excessive noise or using vehicles in places where they are not permitted. When riders are found to be using motorcycles in an antisocial manner, officers may issue warning notices and take action in relation to any road traffic offences that have been committed. Police will continue to patrol these areas and take appropriate enforcement action to help improve safety and address concerns raised by the community.

As part of this ongoing work, a driver was recently stopped on the North Dane Way roundabout after pulling out without proper care and attention because they had become distracted by nearby building works. The driver was dealt with for the offence and issued with a fine. Officers will continue to carry out patrols and enforcement activity to help improve road safety and reduce the risk of collisions.
