Hong Kong: National Anthems (26 March 2018)

Question Asked

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, with reference to the Sino-British Joint Declaration, what assessment he has made of the potential effect of the change to the national anthem law in Hong Kong on the operation of British businesses; and if he will make a statement.

Answer

It is vital that Hong Kong’s rights and freedoms are respected, including when new legislation is being considered. We therefore welcome the Hong Kong Government’s commitment to carefully consider the views of the public and members of the Legislative Council during this legislative process.
