PARLIAMENTARY WRITTEN QUESTION
Academies: York (28 May 2015)

Question Asked

To ask the Secretary of State for Education, when the academy funding agreement was signed for (a) Millthorpe School, (b) Scarcroft Primary School and (c) Knavesmire Primary School in York.

Asked by:
Rachael Maskell (Labour)

Answer

These three strong primary schools in York applied to convert and were granted academy orders on 12 March 2015.

It is up to governing bodies to decide when they consult; it can be done before or after academy order but must have been completed prior to entering into the funding agreement (the legal contract establishing the academy) with the Secretary of State. The schools are consulting until 19 June 2015. The academy conversion support grant of £25,000 is paid to schools after the academy order has been issued and is not linked to completion of the consultation.
