PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
CONDUCT OF THE RT HON MEMBER FOR YEOVIL AND EMPLOYMENT IN YEOVIL (9 March 1994)

Motion Details

That this House deplores the smear and innuendo employed by the Right honourable Member for Yeovil over the provision of aid by the Overseas Development Administration to Malaysia; notes that the actions of the Right honourable Member for Yeovil and his fellow Liberal Democrats have seriously jeopardised Britain's excellent trading relations with Malaysia; further notes that one of the companies seriously affected by the breakdown in relations is the Westland Group plc, based in Yeovil, which was forced, along with other major British companies, to take out a full page advert in The Times newspaper in order to put on record how proud they are to work with the Malaysian Government and the Malaysian private sector; thinks it is about time the Right honourable Member for Yeovil stopped his posturing on morality in public life and acknowledged that his rash words have endangered the jobs of hundreds of his constituents; regrets the fact that the people of Yeovil do not have a Member of Parliament who is capable of representing their true interests instead of scoring cheap political points; and calls upon the Right honourable Member for Yeovil to apologise to his constituents and to stop his attacks on Britain's trading partners and the jobs they create for this country.
