PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
TAYLOR REPORT AND THE EXTENSION OF POOL BETTING DUTY RELIEF (10 November 1992)
Motion Details
That this House applauds the progress that the clubs in the FA Premier League, the Football League and the Scottish Football League have achieved in implementing the Taylor Report; appreciates the financial contribution of the Football Trust; notes that the funds which the Trust has made available derive from the 2.5 per cent. reduction in football pool betting duty introduced by the Prime Minister when Chancellor of the Exchequer in 1990; welcomes the decision taken by the present Chancellor in March 1992 to extend the life of the reduction for a further five years from 1995 provided that he was satisfied that clubs are contributing from their own resources to the Taylor Report's implementation; and believes that as there is now abundant evidence from clubs in all parts of Great Britain regarding their commitment that there should be no further delay on the part of the Chancellor of the Exchequer in confirming the extension of the betting duty concession to the end of the decade.
