PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
GREATER SUPPORT FOR VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND STALKING (27 June 2017)
Motion Details
That this House notes that the British Crime Survey 2017 found that four in five victims of domestic abuse do not tell the police; further notes that 85 per cent of victims sought help five times on average before they got effective help; is concerned that since 2010 17 per cent of specialist women’s refuges have closed; calls on the Government to safeguard local and national agencies that support victims of domestic violence and ensure that they are sufficiently funded; further notes that stalking is also a serious problem; notes that many people still do not report that they have been victims of stalking; and further calls on the Government to demonstrate a clear commitment to improving the recognition, reporting and prosecution of stalking and provide more support to those who are victims of this crime.
