PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
ELECTRIFICATION OF THE TRANSPENNINE AND MIDLAND MAINLINE ROUTES (15 July 2015)

Motion Details

That this House welcomes the Yorkshire Post's Back on Track campaign that seeks to urge the Government to honour its pre-election pledge and urgently reinstate plans to electrify the TransPennine and Midland Mainline routes; notes with concern that the loss of these infrastructure projects undermines the Northern Powerhouse agenda and the Government's commitment to the Northern economy and has a detrimental impact on businesses, commuters and others in Yorkshire and across the north of England; further notes that Ministers have yet to explain to the House precisely when they knew that Network Rail had decided that the programme would be shelved; calls on Ministers to clarify this and inform the House urgently; and further calls on the Government to provide a definitive answer as to when the plans will be back on track and when Yorkshire can expect to have the rail upgrade on the TransPennine route that it needs and was promised.
