PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
REFORM OF THE CARE AND SUPPORT SYSTEM (6 June 2011)
Motion Details
That this House acknowledges that the current system of care and support is in crisis and that, despite initiatives to improve early intervention, personalise services, increase choice and control, support carers and end age discrimination, the system is under-resourced and unable to deliver on these promises; looks forward to the publication of the review by the Commission on the Funding of Care and Support, chaired by Andrew Dilnot, on potential options for reform; recognises that with an ageing population and increasing numbers of people with disabilities throughout the age spectrum, providing future care needs will necessitate an increase in the percentage of gross domestic product that is spent on care both to deliver good quality care for people with low incomes and some support for mid and high income groups; and calls on the Government, with the Care and Support Alliance, made up of the 51 leading care charities and organisations, to ensure that urgent action is taken to create a sustainable care and support system.
