PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
LEGISLATION ON ILLEGAL TIMBER (23 May 2011)
Motion Details
That this House is dismayed that, despite the statement on page 17 of the Coalition Agreement that `We will introduce measures to make the import or possession of illegal timber a criminal offence', the Government is going to rely on weaker EU legislation; notes that last year the US made it illegal for a person or company to import, export, transport, sell, receive, acquire or purchase timber or timber products illegally taken, harvested, possessed, transported, sold or exported; and calls on the Government to do likewise and to honour its commitment to legislate on illegal timber.
