Drug taking.

We are tackling drug taking and drug dealing in the Gillingham area. Our officers have carried out proactive stop searches, which have led to positive results. We have been speaking with local residents to gather information and have increased our high?visibility foot patrols. We have also been stopping and searching people involved in drug activity, which has led to further positive outcomes. In addition, officers have carried out Section 23 drugs warrants, which have resulted in arrests and the seizure of drugs and weapons.

Drug dealing.

We are tackling drug taking and drug dealing in the Gillingham area. Our officers have carried out proactive stop searches, which have led to positive results. We have been speaking with local residents to gather information and have increased our high?visibility foot patrols. We have also been stopping and searching people involved in drug activity, which has led to further positive outcomes. Shoplifting.

Our team has been working hard to help keep the area safe. We have stopped and searched people when needed, which has helped us catch shoplifters. We patrol in uniform so people can see us, and we also work in plain clothes when this helps us spot crime. We have worked closely with local businesses and the CCTV team, and together we have been able to find and arrest suspects quickly. This has led to several arrests and people being taken to court, and it also means we can make sure people get the support they need to move away from crime. Our officers have also helped increase the number of CCTV cameras in the area. These cameras link straight to the Medway CCTV Control Room, which means officers can get to incidents faster and there is now better coverage to help identify suspects.

Fly tipping.

Our Neighbourhood Task Force Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) have been working with Medway Council’s Street Scene Team to deal with fly‑tipping at Samuel Towers.

The PCSOs visited both tower blocks and spoke with residents about the rubbish being dumped and how this is leading to antisocial behaviour in the area. They also took photos and gathered information during their patrols. All of this has now been passed to Medway Council so they can take the appropriate action.

E-Scooters/e-bikes.

Our officers have been working hard to stop people using e‑scooters and e‑bikes in a dangerous or disruptive way. As part of this activity, around 30 vehicles were taken off the streets. Officers also issued several types of enforcement action including a Section 59, TOR and PSPO. A Section 59 warning is given when someone drives in a way that causes alarm, distress, or annoyance, and it means their vehicle can be seized if they do it again. A Traffic Offence Report (TOR) is used when someone breaks road traffic laws and may lead to fines, penalty points, or court action. A Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) ticket is given when a person breaks local rules designed to keep public areas safe, such as riding e‑scooters where they are not allowed.

We shared updates about this work on My Community Voice, social media, and internal police channels so the community can see the action we are taking.

Alcohol.

We are continuing to enforce the Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) in Gillingham High Street. A PSPO sets rules for certain areas to help reduce antisocial behaviour and keep public spaces safe. As part of this work, officers are giving out Community Protection Warnings and Community Protection Notices. These are used when someone’s behaviour is causing problems in the community, and they explain what must stop or change.

Officers are also asking known street drinkers to leave the restricted area when they are breaking the PSPO rules. This work is ongoing and aims to make Gillingham High Street a safer place for everyone.

High Street beat officers also attended a recent licensing hearing about a licence appeal for a premises within the PSPO area.

Fly tipping.

Officers and PCSOs are working with Medway Council and local councillors to tackle fly‑tipping.

A key focus area is Samuel Towers, where targeted work is underway. Together with partners, plans are being developed to improve the area and make it safer and cleaner for the community.

Alcohol.

Local officers, town centre teams and special constables are enforcing rules around drinking alcohol in public to help keep Gillingham High Street safe and welcoming.

Officers speak with individuals and take action where needed to prevent street drinking. Action has also been taken against a local shop for selling alcohol to someone who was already drunk.

This remains a priority, and work will continue.

During recent activity, a number of vehicles were seized and riders were dealt with for offences. This work helps make roads and pavements safer for everyone, and will continue through regular patrols.
