PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
MIND'S ACCESS ALL AGES CAMPAIGN (9 October 2005)
Motion Details
That this House recognises the mental health needs of an ageing population as set out in Mind's Access All Ages campaign; supports Mind's calls for the Government to act now to combat discrimination and stigma around mental health in later life, to promote positive mental well-being as people age, to ensure that older people have equal access to the same level and quality of support and treatment available to other age groups, that treatment choice is a right not a gamble for older people with mental health issues and that if people experience mental distress in later life they are supported by people who have expertise in mental health care; and further supports Mind's call to ensure that people who seek treatment for mental distress in later life are properly consulted and informed about any treatments they undertake, to promote planning for mental health needs as a core element of preparation for later life and to ensure that people with mental health problems, who are experts in their own conditions, are involved in all decisions about their own care and treatment, whatever their age.
