PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
EU FOOD SUPPLEMENTS DIRECTIVE (28 April 2002)

Motion Details

That this House expresses its concern that, despite the recent welcome amendment of Article 4, the EU Food Supplements Directive will lead to an over-restrictive regulation of food supplements resulting in many popular and important substances with a long history of safe use not being available in the United Kingdom; particularly notes that the use of reference intakes of vitamins and minerals for the population are likely to lead to an inappropriately low upper safety level; and calls on the Government vigorously to defend United Kingdom consumers' and manufacturers' interests.
