PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
UNDERAGE DRINKING AND CONFISCATION OF ALCOHOL (22 July 2002)
Motion Details
That this House notes the strong link between youth anti-social behaviour and under age drinking in public places; believes the measures in the Criminal Justice and Police Act 2001 are helping the police to bear down on this problem; is aware of the view of some police forces that the Act only gives them the power to seize opened containers from which an under age individual is drinking but not unopened bottles and cans; welcomes the Home Secretary's recent commitment to review the legislation with a view to removing any ambiguity and giving police powers to confiscate all containers, opened and unopened; and asks the Government to include this important measure in the Sentencing and Criminal Justice Bill to be introduced in the next session.
