PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
CYPRUS INTERCOMMUNAL TALKS (14 July 1997)
Motion Details
That this House welcomes the fact that President Clerides of Cyprus and the Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash were able to hold direct talks between 9th and 12th July in New York under the sponsorship of the Secretary General of the United Nations; is encouraged by reports of the good will, good faith, cordiality and commitment to the negotiations displayed by both participants; welcomes their agreement to hold further unscheduled talks at an early date in Cyprus to discuss humanitarian issues; and trusts that they will be able to make steady and incremental progress in future rounds of negotiations towards a legal instrument for a just, viable and lasting settlement of the Cyprus problem.
