PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
CONTINENCE CHARTER (8 December 1997)

That this House welcomes the launch of the Continence Charter by the Continence Campaign, in partnership with the RCM, Research into Ageing, RADAR and the Continence Foundations such as the BMA, the Patients Association, ASBAH, the Stroke Association, the Relatives Association, Help the Aged, the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists, Guys Hospital, the Long Term Medical Conditions Association, the Spinal Injuries Association and the Disability Alliance; further notes that the charter states that incontinence is a major problem that affects all age groups, and that it should be recognised as such, that there should be appropriate and effective treatment for the incontinent, regardless of where they live or what they can afford, and that mandatory national minimum standards for continence care, based on clinical need, should be established; and calls on Her Majesty's Government to endorse the charter and treat the issue of incontinence with the respect which it deserves.
