The narrow Lerwick lanes which lead off Commercial Street obviously date from before the days of vehicular transport (!).

Shetland Soap Company, Lerwick
The Shetland Soap Company was set up by COPE, a co-operative which provides employment for disabled and able-bodied employees. Next door is The Wine Shop (although it is missing its H) and the Bank of Scotland can just be seen further right.

Bank Lane, Lerwick
The steepest of the lanes leading off Commercial Street, hence the provision of an iron handrail.

Pitt Lane formerly Leask's Closs, Lerwick
This closs runs westwards from Commercial Street up the southern side of the Grand Hotel. Now called Pitt Lane (after the Prime Minister of the time) it was formerly called Leask's Closs after a far more local man.

Commercial Street, Lerwick
On a cool showery day in late August. The flag is the Shetland flag, designed by Roy Grönneberg and Bill Adams in 1969, but only officially recognised in 2005.
