Clock Tower - Thirsk Market place
This area is very busy, not least because many tourist coaches will stop here for a while - the main road for Scarborough A170 passes through. The brick building behind is the former Post Office, there are old postcards showing it at the hub of hundreds of telephone cables on large stacked poles.

A blue plaque on the right hand wall says "The house which stood on this site was occupied by John Gilbert Baker FRS FLS 1834-1920 a famous botanist President of the Thirsk Natural History Society author of A Flora of North Yorkshire and other books Keeper of the Herbarium The Royal Botanical Gardens at Kew 1890-1899".
