St Chad's Well,Lastingham
Located on the East side of High Street. The well commemorates St Chad who helped to build the local monastery with his brother Cedd. The well consists of a stone trough inside an arched well-house flanked by a high stone wall. Ivy is starting to encroach and is obscuring the carved inscription. St Chad was one of three brothers. Cedd and Cynebel were involved in the building of the first monastery, and Chad later became Bishop of Lichfield, of York, and of Lindisfarne. The only legend attached to this well is that of Wulfhere, King of Mercia who, filled with remorse after putting his two sons to death for worshipping at Chad's cell, adopted the faith of his murdered children at the instance of his Queen, Ermenilda. The well is now dry.

A look at life in Lastingham 2011
I was particularly taken by the advert for a Dogs' Tea Party. There's also an invitation to the village picnic in honour of the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Get your fish and chips here
The mobile fish and chip van parks here, by the village green in Lastingham, on Mondays between 6.25 and 6.40.
The metal plaque on the bridge identifies it as number 625. I assume the YNR stands for Yorkshire North Riding.
