The Wombwell Arms, Wass
The building was constructed around 1620 as a granary, probably using stone from the nearby Byland Abbey, and it became an ale house in about 1645. In 2008 the pub was totally renovated. For a closer view of the sign Image

A useful tool in Wass
This wooden object found against the wall of a building opposite the water fountain is used to bend the wooden rims to waggon wheels. I have seen a wheelwright using a modern version making wooden wheels for pony traps, but I do not know its name.

Water fountain, Wass
The water fountain has a date of 1870 with the initials of HMS. The initials stand for Henry Miles Stapylton. The Stapylton family owned the Byland and Wass estate from 1739 to the 1880s.
